Indian Police Team Completes Green Building Fire Investigation, Departs Maldives

The Indian police team dispatched to investigate the fire at government ministry buildings in Male’ has completed its work and departed the Maldives.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the team left on 22 December after conducting a thorough examination of the affected area. They also collected essential information for the ongoing investigation. CCTV footage, photographs, and video recordings from the incident were shared with the visiting team to aid their efforts.

The Indian authorities will provide their findings to the Maldives Police Service once their analysis is complete.

The fire, which occurred on 12 December at approximately 06:30 hrs, originated in the Housing Ministry and rapidly spread to the Construction Ministry and the Environment Ministry. Both buildings sustained extensive damage, rendering them unfit for use. The structures also housed the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and a branch office of Malé City Council.

In the aftermath of the incident, operations for the affected offices have been temporarily relocated to Dharubaaruge.
