Housing Ministry Takes Over Allocation of Thinadhoo Housing Units

The Housing Ministry has assumed responsibility for allocating 200 housing units in GDh. Thinadhoo, citing the city council’s failure to comply with official directives.
In a statement issued last Thursday, the ministry said the allocation of housing units under government projects must follow policies and criteria endorsed by the ministry. Despite this, the Thinadhoo City Council announced the allocation of flats on 29 January without receiving prior approval.
The following day, the ministry instructed the council to cancel the announcement and submit the relevant policies and criteria for endorsement. However, the ministry stated that the council had not complied with these instructions.
As a result, the Housing Ministry said it would not recognise any actions taken under the unapproved announcement. It confirmed it will now establish the necessary criteria in line with government housing policies to ensure a fair allocation process and will work to distribute the units as soon as possible.
