Family Says Critical Surgery for 21-Year-Old Woman in Fall Incident was Successful

The family of the 21-year-old woman found fallen on a rooftop of a warehouse in Male’ confirmed that her most critical surgery was successful yesterday.
The woman fell from the ninth floor of Henveiru Fentoniya on April 18, following which she was receiving treatment for her injuries in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ until she was transferred to Malaysia for further treatment on Sunday.
Yesterday, her brother-in-law shared in a post on X that she had been in surgery for over five hours, for a fragmented fracture in the C7 bone, the largest and most inferior vertebra in the neck region.
“This was the most critical surgery she had to face, and Insha Allah, it went smoothly,” he wrote.
He added that there won’t be more surgeries like this, and if all goes well, she may be able to sit up soon.
Regarding the incident of her fall, a 21-year-old man, Raudh Ahmed Zilal, was arrested on April 24. The passports of all others involved in this case has been seized as well, and they are prohibited from flying out of the country.
Additionally, a local influencer, Shehenaz Moosa, raised over MVR 700,000 to cover her medical expenses. The youth have been holding serial protests, calling for a fair investigation into this case. Commissioner of the Police Ali Shujau resigned from his post following public pressure.
To investigate this case, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu had set up a special Presidential Commission as well.
