The Executive Committee meeting in London on the 12th and 13th will finalise decisions on the CPA’s legal status.

The CPA, founded in 1911, has operated as a voluntary organisation until now. However, on December 18, 2024, the UK Parliament passed legislation that the King granted Royal Assent on January 16, 2025, officially recognising the CPA as an international organisation. The UK Parliament plans to pass a second law later this year to extend the CPA’s legal authority under its new status. Once enacted, this legislation will allow the CPA Secretariat to participate in Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) activities at the United Nations General Assembly.

During the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament’s visit, a meeting with the Speaker of the House of Commons has also been scheduled.
