Japan Donates 178 Books to Kulhudhuffushi Public Library

The Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives, Ishigami Rumiko has handed over a donation of 178 books to the Kulhudhuffushi Public Library.

The books were donated under the “Read Japan Project” by the Nippon Foundation, with the goal of fostering a deeper understanding of Japan’s culture and society.

The Council described the event as reflecting a shared commitment to education and cultural exchange, and expressed its gratitude to Ambassador Ishigami, the Embassy of Japan, and the Nippon Foundation for their contributions.

The Kulhudhuffushi Public Library was officially inaugurated in September 2024 by the Kulhudhuffushi City Council. The facility opened with a collection of 2,465 books and includes three study rooms. According to the most recent updates, the library’s collection has continued to grow, and the council has since implemented several planned additions, including a reading park and a dedicated mental health space.
