Maldivians Invited to Take Part in International Quran Competition in Saudi Arabia
Maldivians now have the opportunity to participate in the renowned King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorisation, Recitation and Interpretation of the Holy Quran, held in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Organised by the General Secretariat of the Holy Quran Competition under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance of Saudi Arabia, the competition draws participants from across the world. It is recognised as one of the most prestigious international contests focused on Quranic memorisation and recitation.
According to the National Centre for the Holy Quran, two Maldivian participants will be selected to compete in this year’s event, each in a separate category. The first category requires the memorisation of the entire Holy Quran, with accurate recitation and proper intonation. The second category involves the memorisation of 15 consecutive Jus’ (parts) of the Quran, also with accurate recitation and intonation.
To be eligible, applicants must be male, a citizen of the Maldives, and under the age of 25 according to the Hijri calendar. Applicants must not be widely recognised as a Quran reciter in the Maldives and must not have previously participated in the competition. For those applying under the full memorisation category, a certificate of memorisation and the ability to recite with correct Tajweed are also required.
The National Centre for the Holy Quran will review all applications and select one candidate for each category. If the selected participant is a visually impaired person, an individual with special needs, or a child under the age of 17, the competition organisers will arrange for a parent or guardian to accompany them.
Interested applicants must submit their forms to the National Centre for the Holy Quran by 12:00 noon on Wednesday, 11 June.
