Abdulla Hameed and Mohamed Saleem have been sworn in as Justices of the Supreme Court of the Maldives following their appointment by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
The oath of office was administered today at the President’s Office by Supreme Court Justice Aisha Shujune Muhammad. After the swearing-in, President Muizzu formally handed over the letters of appointment to both Justices.
Earlier today, the Parliament endorsed the nominations following approval from the Parliamentary Judiciary Committee. Saleem, a current judge of the High Court, and Hameed, a former judge of the same court, were identified as the leading candidates to fill the vacancies.
Their elevation to the Supreme Court comes in the wake of the dismissal of former Justices Dr Azmiralda Zahir and Mahaz Ali Zahir, who were removed from office on 14 May due to disciplinary violations.
