The Maldives’ first dedicated Metabolic Centre has officially opened in Malé City, marking a step forward in the country’s efforts to improve care for patients with chronic health conditions.
The centre, established by the Maldives Neuro Endocrine Medical Facility, was inaugurated by the Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim. Located on Lily Magu, the facility is focused on the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of metabolic disorders, including diabetes, high cholesterol and hypertension.

According to the centre’s Senior Consultant, Dr Mohamed Wisham, the initiative addresses a critical gap in the health system, where a lack of integrated treatment approaches for metabolic conditions has been a longstanding concern. The centre aims to identify disease patterns and assess whether specific health issues are linked to underlying metabolic disorders, enabling a more holistic management of these conditions.
The facility is equipped with a registrar and has introduced a Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) system to enhance glucose tracking for patients with diabetes and related complications. The CGM system is expected to significantly improve disease management by providing more accurate and consistent monitoring.
Catering to patients of all age groups, the Metabolic Centre has also launched both a patient education guide and a diabetic education guide to assist individuals in managing their health more effectively.
