Police Apprehend Man Over Theft of Safe with Cash

Police have arrested a man in connection with the theft of a safe containing more than MVR 100,000 from a residence in Machangolhi, Male’.

The Maldives Police Service stated that the incident was reported last night, after the safe was discovered missing from the house. Officers launched an investigation immediately, which included reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area.

Based on the footage, police identified and arrested 39-year-old Ismail Saif, of Habibihep, R. Alifushi. He was apprehended on Maaveyo Magu at around 11:05 AM this morning.

During a search carried out at the time of his arrest, police recovered a sum of money believed to have been taken from the stolen safe, as well as a mobile phone suspected to have been purchased with the stolen funds.
