The Head of the Community Engagement Unit, Meekail Mohamed Riyaz, stated that the team had inspected 40 houses on Buruzu Magu following reports of water leakage, and discovered issues in 22 of those properties. An additional 28 houses on the same road had also formally requested the council to resolve similar problems.

Meekail explained that the council intends to visit every affected house to engage with owners or residents, with the aim of solving the issue completely before the end of the year. He called for continued public cooperation to help expedite the work, acknowledging the support already received.

Mayor Azim highlighted the importance of these efforts in ensuring the cleanliness of the city’s roads and streets, noting that public support would be essential for the initiative’s success.

Water leaking from residences, particularly from the outdoor units of air conditioners, remains one of the most frequently reported issues in Malé City.

As part of its standard procedure, the council notifies the relevant building owner when an issue is identified and retains the discretion to impose a fine of no less than MVR 500 for a first-time offence.
