First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has underscored the importance of compassion, dedication, and a commitment to serving humanity as the foundation of any effective healthcare system. She delivered this message at the opening ceremony of Hinithun 2025, the Maldives’ first-ever International Dental Conference.
Addressing a gathering of healthcare professionals and sector stakeholders, the First Lady called on participants to reimagine models of dental care that meet the changing needs of communities. She encouraged the integration of preventive strategies, continuous professional development, and innovative technologies to improve both access to and quality of dental services.
“True progress in healthcare,” she said, “comes not only from clinical expertise but from an approach grounded in empathy and driven by the desire to uplift communities.”
The First Lady acknowledged that, despite increasing awareness, oral and dental health often remain overlooked. She identified this as a critical area for growth and urged for stronger efforts to promote healthier lifestyles, regular dental check-ups, and broader public education.
She drew attention to the rising incidence of untreated tooth decay, gum disease, and oral cancers, linking them to wider public health outcomes. Emphasising the strong correlation between oral health and overall wellbeing, she called for more resilient healthcare systems and forward-thinking policies to tackle these challenges.
Reinforcing her central message, the First Lady stated, “Compassion, dedication, and service to humanity lie at the heart of every successful health system.” She urged those in the health sector to use this conference as an opportunity to build partnerships and pave the way for a future in which dental care is regarded as a core element of universal health services.
