A delegation of 12 Maldivian media representatives, including members of the Maldives Media Council (MMC), arrived in New Delhi yesterday for a Familiarisation (FAM) trip to India, organised by the Indian High Commission in the Maldives.
The visit aims to deepen the participants’ understanding of India’s culture and showcase the country’s key policy initiatives and developments.
Before departure, the delegates met with the Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Shri G. Balasubramanian, Deputy High Commissioner Kumar Gaurav, and Information Officer Kiran Khatri on Thursday. The High Commissioner outlined the itinerary, highlighting that it was carefully curated to offer an immersive and informative experience. He urged participants to fully engage and pose questions freely, assuring them that “nothing is off limits.” He also noted that similar familiarisation trips would be organised more frequently for Maldivian media.
Today, the delegation travels to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and the ODOP facility, which promotes local products under Uttar Pradesh’s One District One Product scheme.
Beginning Monday, the delegation will visit the National Maritime Foundation, followed by a briefing at the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), where discussions will focus on regional cooperation and development policy. After lunch, they will meet the Joint Secretary (DPA-III) and end the day with a welcome dinner hosted by Randhir Jaiswal, Additional Secretary (XP) and Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.
On Tuesday, the group will tour the Information Fusion Centre – Indian Ocean Region, which plays a key role in maritime security, before visiting the Press Trust of India. In the afternoon, they will hold meetings with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Secretary of Commerce, Shri Sunil Barthwal.
