Nominations Open for Maldives Media Council’s 2024 Journalism Awards

The Maldives Media Council (MMC) has opened nominations for this year’s Journalism Awards, with the deadline for submissions set for 1:00 pm on 31 July.

The awards, which have been held annually since 2014, aim to recognise excellence in journalism across a range of fields. Submissions will be considered in 14 award categories under two main areas: the newspaper and magazine category, and the audio and video journalism category.

The award categories include Investigative Journalism, Social Sector Journalism, Political Journalism, Judiciary and Legal Journalism, Business and Economic Journalism, Sports Journalism, Photojournalism, and the Documentary sector. Other categories are Feature Journalism, Lifestyle, Entertainment and the Arts Journalism, Environment and Sustainable Development Journalism, Most Promising Journalist, Journalist of the Year, and Best Regional Newspaper.

According to the MMC, the purpose of the awards is to encourage Maldivian journalists, recognise their professional contributions, promote ethical journalism, and improve the overall quality of journalistic output in the country.

As in previous years, the awards will be presented for work published or broadcast during the previous calendar year.
