The agreement was signed yesterday by State Minister for Environment Ibrahim Mimrah, representing the MET Office, and Secretary General Fathimath Himya on behalf of the MRC.
Under the partnership, both organisations will collaborate on community outreach, technical support, and training programmes aimed at increasing public understanding of climate-related risks and disaster response mechanisms.
Planned activities include mobilising MRC volunteers in community-based weather monitoring and early warning systems, as well as providing humanitarian-focused training for staff of the MET Office.
The MET Office stated that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to promote stronger public engagement in climate resilience and disaster risk reduction, with a particular focus on local participation and awareness campaigns.
