Ooredoo’s AI Calendar Brings Badi Edhuru to Life

MV+ News Desk | July 15, 2025

Ooredoo Maldives has introduced Badi Edhuru as the featured character for July in its innovative AI-powered calendar for 2025, an imaginative initiative that reawakens Maldivian folklore through modern technology.

Badi Edhuru, also known as Badi Edhuru Kaleygefaanu, is a legendary figure rooted in local myth. Once a nobleman, he turned to black magic and became a fearsome spirit. Said to haunt dark, humid places, he reportedly appears when his name is spoken three times. With a magical gun loaded with coconut shell bullets, he inflicts skin ailments on his victims; a chilling detail that forms part of his haunting legacy.

The Ooredoo Calendar 2025 launched earlier this year, showcasing 12 iconic characters from Maldivian folklore, including well-known names such as Foolhudhigu Handi and Safaru Kaiydha. But this is no ordinary calendar, each month unlocks an interactive experience powered by artificial intelligence.

Using Ooredoo’s AI chatbot, users can engage in real-time conversations with each character, learning about their stories and asking questions. The result is a culturally rich and immersive experience that blends storytelling tradition with digital innovation.

This project reflects Ooredoo’s broader commitment to fostering a digital Maldives; where technology is used not only for connectivity, but also to preserve heritage and strengthen intergenerational connections.

As July unfolds, Ooredoo invites users to explore the legend of Badi Edhuru, reflect on his tale, and engage with Maldivian folklore in an entirely new way.
