MMS Extends White Alert to Northern Atolls

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) has extended the white alert issued to the northern atolls of the Maldives.

Yesterday, MMS issued a nationwide alert until 2000 hours. Today, the alert is from 0700 hours to 1300  hours, and from Haa Alifu Atoll to Thaa Atoll. The forecast warns of rough seas and strong winds of 19-24 mph, with gusts of wind up to 40 mph.

MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:

White alert: Alert Level 1

Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2

Orange warning: Alert Level 3

Red warning: Alert Level 4
