Gov’t Conducts Internet Scam Awareness Sessions for Senior Citizens

The Maldives Police Service (MPS), in collaboration with Israhvehinge Naadhee, conducted an awareness programme today to educate older citizens on safe internet use and recognising online scams.

The sessions, held at Israhvehinge Naadhee centres in Malé and Hulhumalé, were led by MPS’ Anti-Scam Centre. Designed specifically for individuals aged 55 and above, the sessions aimed to equip participants with practical knowledge to protect themselves online.

Key topics included how to identify suspicious behaviour online, common scam tactics used by fraudsters, and preventive steps to avoid falling victim to such schemes. Officers also outlined what individuals should do if they encounter or fall victim to online scams.

The programme saw active participation from the community, highlighting growing interest in digital safety among older internet users.
