The events took place on Sunday in conjunction with the official visit of Dr Mohamed Al-Kuwaiti, head of the UAE’s Cyber Security Council, to the Maldives. The foundation stone for the Police Data Centre was laid by Dr Al-Kuwaiti, Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusan, and the Commissioner of Police. The facility will be equipped with advanced technology aimed at modernising police operations and enhancing crime prevention and law enforcement capabilities.

Following the groundbreaking, the newly established Police Cyber Security Operations Centre was inaugurated at the Shaheed Hussain Adam Building in Male’. The centre is designed to monitor, detect, and respond to cyber threats while working to prevent and mitigate risks in the digital sphere.

Police said the initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the Maldives’ cyber defence infrastructure. Dr Al-Kuwaiti later met with senior police officials to discuss further cooperation in the cyber security sector. His visit follows similar engagements in August last year, during which both countries explored opportunities for collaboration, training, and capacity building.

The government has made cyber security a key priority, establishing the National Cyber Security Agency to oversee nationwide efforts to safeguard digital infrastructure.
