The programme allows students to undertake studies both in the Maldives and overseas, with destinations including Egypt, Brunei, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia. Applications for 50 scholarships under the Zakat Fund were opened on 14 April. Of these, 20 are allocated for studies within the Maldives and 30 for study abroad. Thirteen of the international awards have been designated as special scholarships for higher education.
For students pursuing studies locally, scholarships are available for master’s programmes at the Maldives National University and the Islamic University of Maldives.
The Zakat Scholarship scheme is funded through the Zakat Fund to support financially disadvantaged students. It is designed to strengthen Maldivian society by producing skilled professionals in fields recognised as essential. Three categories of assistance are provided through the Fund: scholarships for higher education, special scholarships for higher education, and financial aid to complete higher education.
