Dr Mohamed Shifan, Director of the Maldives National Cancer Centre | MV+ Exclusive
“When you look at the factors that lead to cancer, there are factors that you can modify, and factors that you cannot modify. Unfortunately, in the Maldives, there are lots of factors that can be modified that are entrenched in our day-to-day lifestyle,” says Dr Mohamed Shifan, Cancer Surgeon, and the Director of the Maldives National Cancer Centre at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
In this exclusive interview, in partnership with the Cancer Society of Maldives, Dr Shifan discusses the state of cancer treatment in the Maldives, the treatments currently available, the habits among Maldivians that contribute to cancer, and the lack of facilities and infrastructure that hinder proper care. He also highlights the challenges faced in providing treatment and the suffering experienced by families.
