Alcohol Seizures Lead to Arrest of Four Expats, Says Police
Four expatriates have been arrested in the Maldives on charges of possession, use, and sale of alcohol, according to the Maldives Police Service.

Three Sri Lankans and one Bangladeshi were taken into custody in separate incidents last week. The Sri Lankans were identified as Senith Heshan Vikramasinghe, 29, Dulith Madusaka, 39, and Jinith Maduranga Senavirathin, 24. The Bangladeshi was identified as 35-year-old Jahangir Hosein.

The Sri Lankans were arrested in an operation carried out in Male’ last Wednesday by the Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Drug Enforcement Department following intelligence reports. A search of a residence in Henveiru ward and a motorcycle led to the discovery of 19 bottles and 12 cans of alcohol. Police confirmed that the three men have been handed over to Maldives Immigration for deportation.
The Bangladeshi national was arrested during police patrols in Hulhumale’ Phase 1 on Friday. He was stopped on Reethigas Magu while riding a motorcycle after police observed suspicious activity. A search of the vehicle uncovered nine 500ml bottles of suspected liquor. He has been placed in remand custody for ten days by court order.
In a separate case, a Maldivian man was arrested on 25 August after police stopped a pickup truck carrying 144 cans of alcohol.
