A new programme titled ‘Ungenemaa’ has been launched for minors serving sentences or held at the juvenile correctional centres in Asseyri Prison. The initiative will continue until 20 September.

According to the Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology, four minors are currently enrolled in the programme. They will take part in classes on law and order, mental health and personal development, alongside workshops on prayer and religious studies.

The programme has been designed to instil a love for Islam, provide a basic understanding of the religion and encourage participants to live in accordance with its principles. It also seeks to promote psychological awareness, help minors recognise their self-worth, and build confidence through different theoretical approaches.

A further objective is to prevent children in custody from feeling isolated from society. The initiative aims to strengthen their ability to cope with challenges, enhance knowledge of laws and regulations, and encourage respect for the rule of law to support positive behavioural change.

The overall goal of the programme is to ensure that minors leaving correctional centres are religiously informed, self-confident, socially accepted, mentally aware, law-abiding and able to reintegrate into society free from crime.
