President Muizzu Holds Bilateral Meetings with Leaders of Azerbaijan and Nepal in Tianjin

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held separate bilateral meetings with President Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli of Nepal on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, China.
Meeting President Aliyev at the Crowne Plaza Tianjin Meijiangnan on Monday, the two leaders acknowledged the longstanding and close cooperation between the Maldives and Azerbaijan. President Muizzu expressed his appreciation for the hospitality extended to him during his visit to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29). Discussions focused on exploring new areas of collaboration, including strengthening people-to-people exchanges, enhancing economic ties, and promoting trade and investment. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Maldives–Azerbaijan relations across shared priorities.
In a separate meeting with Prime Minister Oli at the Tianjin Meijiang Convention Centre, President Muizzu and the Nepalese leader reaffirmed the enduring friendship and strong bilateral ties between the Maldives and Nepal. They committed to expanding cooperation in education, economic diversification, and multilateral platforms, while highlighting a shared vision of enhancing regional cooperation and sustainable development through deeper engagement. President Muizzu also conveyed his gratitude for Nepal’s continued support, with both sides agreeing to pursue tangible outcomes in areas of mutual interest.

President Muizzu is currently in China to attend the SCO 2025 Summit, marking his third visit to China since he assumed office in November 2023. His first state visit took place in January 2024, during which 20 agreements, grants, and MoUs were signed across fields including disaster management, economy, public service media, human resources, and agriculture. He later visited Shandong Province in November 2024 to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
