Public consultations on the National Development Masterplan, which will guide the Maldives’ growth over the next two decades, have commenced with island visits.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the team working on the plan, branded Viluntheri Raajje 2045 (Resilient Maldives 2045), began its island visits yesterday, starting with Kaafu Guraidhoo. During the visit, the team met with the island council and residents to gather public input on national development priorities, social and economic progress, and long-term aspirations.
The ministry stated that the consultations will extend to all inhabited islands in the coming days. Island and atoll councils, government agencies, businesses, and community organisations will have opportunities to share their perspectives during these sessions.
The National Development Masterplan is designed to provide a long-term framework for national initiatives, ensuring the sustainable use of resources for the benefit of the public. It also aims to build resilience against climate change while enabling the Maldives to adapt to shifts in global technology and economic trends.
