Maldives Hits 1.5 Million Tourist Arrivals in 2025

The latest statistics from the Tourism Ministry show that the Maldives has welcomed over 1.5 million tourists so far in 2025.

The first week of September saw a significant increase in arrivals, with 33,773 visitors entering the country between 1 and 7 September. This represents a 23.6 percent rise compared with the same period in 2024, when 27,322 tourists arrived.
The average daily arrivals for the week reached 4,825, maintaining strong momentum from August, which closed with 192,058 tourists. The increase reflects consistent growth across 2025, with total arrivals as of 7 September reaching 1.52 million, a 9.7 percent rise over the same period in 2024.
China continued to lead as the top source market, contributing 240,828 arrivals, followed by Russia with 182,315 and the United Kingdom with 136,619. Italy, Germany, and India also remained among the strongest contributors, alongside notable growth from the United States, France, Spain, and Australia.
Resorts remained the dominant choice for visitors, accounting for 73.4 percent of arrivals. Guesthouses followed with 21.9 percent, while hotels and safari vessels collectively made up the remainder. As of early September, a total of 1,267 tourist facilities were operational nationwide, providing 66,551 beds.
With arrivals surpassing 1.5 million before mid-September, the Maldives is on track to sustain its upward trend, supported by diversified markets and a broad range of accommodation options across the atolls.
