Hussain Fahumy, who was dismissed as Managing Director of the State Electric Company (STELCO), has been appointed to a senior position in the President’s Office.
He has been named Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto, a post that carries ministerial status.
Fahumy had worked at STELCO for more than 25 years and was appointed as the company’s Managing Director in November 2023. The government has not disclosed the reason for his dismissal.
He was succeeded at STELCO by Ahmed Shamah Rasheed, who previously served as Managing Director of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO). Shamah had been suspended for over a month during an internal investigation at MIFCO and was later dismissed.
Fahumy is one of 18 appointees to ministerial-level positions in the President’s Office.
