The People’s Majlis has approved Mohamed Mujthaz as President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and Mohamed Shafeeq Mahmood as President of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM). Lawmakers also confirmed Mohamed Nasih for a second term at the CSC, this time as Vice-President.

Mujthaz, who was appointed to the CSC in April, received 68 votes in favour, with no MPs voting against. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Maldives College of Higher Education, previously represented Hanimaadhoo constituency in the 17th Parliament, and served as State Minister at the President’s Office under former President Abdulla Yameen.

Former CSC President Mohamed Nasih was confirmed as Vice-President with 64 votes in favour and one against. Nasih, reappointed to the commission earlier this month, has a background in broadcasting and telecommunications, having served as Secretary General and Director General of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission and as Director General of the Communications Authority of Maldives.

Meanwhile, Shafeeq was endorsed as President of HRCM with 67 votes in favour and one against. Appointed to the commission by the president earlier this month, his term will run until September 2030. Shafeeq has held senior posts across the public and private sectors, including Chief Executive Officer of the Local Government Authority and Managing Director of the Maldives Broadcasting Corporation.

The Independent Institutions Committee cleared the nominations without conducting new interviews, citing previous assessments. The appointments are part of an ongoing process to fill key positions in independent institutions.
