The first group of participants under the National Service Programme has departed for training in Lh. Maafilaafushi yesterday.

According to the Ministry of Defence, over 340 youth selected for the inaugural batch have travelled to the island to undertake a three-month training course. Applications for the programme were open from 20 April to 1 June, during which 1,244 youth applied.
The ministry has stated that all applicants who meet the fitness requirements will be provided the opportunity to participate in the training.
The selection process for the first batch took place in July across several locations, including Malé City, Dhidhdhoo, Kulhudhuffushi City, Funadhoo, Manadhoo, Ungoofaaru, Mahibadhoo, Nilandhoo, Veymandoo, Gan, and Addu City.
