The government has hired more than 1,000 employees in the healthcare sector since taking office, according to Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim.

The Minister said the recruitment drive was part of a broader strategy to expand services, improve quality, and prioritise patient safety nationwide. Over 400 staff have been deployed to healthcare facilities in the islands, while more than 500 have been appointed in the capital region to meet growing demand.

Alongside workforce expansion, the government has introduced several initiatives to strengthen patient safety. These include new licensing software, a Patient Safety Champions Training programme, and the establishment of a Patient Safety Pathway.

The Ministry has also emphasised infrastructure development, legal reforms, and service expansion as part of its wider agenda to build a stronger health system. Minister Nazim highlighted that the administration aims not only to provide treatment but also to promote preventive measures, working collaboratively to ensure their effectiveness.

The record number of new appointments, combined with technological and infrastructural improvements, reflects a significant step towards creating a more robust, accessible, and inclusive healthcare system for all Maldivians.
