According to statistics released on Saturday, a total of 2,870 registered single mothers and fathers received aid through the Single Parent Allowance scheme, including 30 newly registered beneficiaries last month. Financial support also reached 4,901 children under their care, with 69 new registrations during the same period.
NSPA further reported that financial assistance was provided to 97 guardians and 130 children living under non-parental care. Four new guardians were registered in August, with MVR 178,500 allocated to this category of beneficiaries.
The state currently provides an allowance of MVR 2,000 to single parents, with additional support based on the number of children. Under the revised policy, up to 10 children are eligible for an allowance of MVR 1,000 each, replacing the previous cap of MVR 3,000 for families with more than three children.
