Editorial Policy & Standards

MV+ exists to spark conversations, challenge the status quo, and create space for voices that are often unheard. This editorial policy sets out the principles that guide how we report, publish, and engage with our audience. It ensures our journalism remains independent, accurate, and focused on the public good — even when it is uncomfortable or inconvenient.

Our Core Values

Truth: We seek facts, verify them rigorously, and present them without distortion.

Fairness: We represent diverse perspectives and treat all subjects with respect.

Public Interest: We prioritise stories that serve the community over those that merely attract clicks.

Neutrality: We report without bias, separating fact from opinion and ensuring all coverage is fair and balanced.

Political Ideology

MV+ is independent of any political party, movement, or ideology. We are not financially backed or influenced by any political group, and no political interest has control over our editorial decisions.

We do not identify as conservative, liberal, or aligned with any other ideological label. Our role is not to push a political agenda but to provide fair, accurate, and balanced coverage that allows our audience to make up their own minds.

MV+ also respects the constitutional framework of the Maldives, where freedom of expression is protected but limited in matters that go against Islam.

Ethical considerations regarding minors and vulnerable groups

MV+ adheres to the highest ethical standards when reporting on minors, victims of abuse, and marginalised or vulnerable groups, especially since our core focus is on social issues. We recognise that our reporting can have a lasting impact on their lives, and we take special care to minimise harm.

  • Privacy & Dignity: We do not publish personal details — including names, addresses, or identifiable information — that could put minors or vulnerable individuals at risk.
  • Images & Visuals: All faces of minors, victims, and members of vulnerable groups will be blurred in photos and videos unless we have explicit, informed consent from a parent, guardian, or the individual (where appropriate).
  • Sensitive Contexts: We avoid sensationalising or retraumatising victims through our reporting. Stories involving sexual violence, domestic abuse, or trauma are written with empathy, using language that avoids stigma.
  • Informed Consent: When interviewing minors or vulnerable individuals, we ensure that consent is given knowingly and freely, and that participation will not cause further harm.

Use of AI in Our Journalism

At MV+, we embrace technology and believe in evolving with artificial intelligence to improve the efficiency and quality of our work. AI allows our newsroom to save time on routine tasks, freeing up more resources to focus on in-depth reporting and stories that address pressing social issues.

Our approach to AI is guided by transparency, accountability, and human oversight:

  • Transparency: All news articles with the assistance of AI are published under the byline MV+ News Desk. Stories, features, and analyses written by our journalists carry their individual bylines.
  • Human Oversight: No AI-generated content is published without review and approval by a human editor. Editorial Integrity: We do not allow AI tools to replace critical judgment and ethical decision-making. AI is a tool to enhance journalism, not to compromise it.
  • AI-Generated Multimedia: Multimedia generated via AI will be credited.

By using AI responsibly, we aim to deliver faster, more accurate reporting while staying true to our mission of producing journalism that serves the public interest.

This editorial policy reflects MV+’s commitment to independent, ethical, and impactful journalism. It is both a guide for our team and a promise to our audience — that we will report with accuracy, neutrality, and integrity, regardless of political pressures.
