According to President Muizzu, similar decompression chambers will be established in Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, GA. Villingili, AA. Rasdhoo, Thinadhoo City, and Male’ City within the next six months. The initiative aims to expand access to critical healthcare services for divers across the country.

Decompression chambers are vital for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of commercial divers. They play a key role in the treatment of decompression sickness, a condition that can occur when divers ascend too quickly from underwater.

A decompression chamber is an airtight vessel that allows for the controlled adjustment of pressure and oxygen levels. It is primarily used for hyperbaric oxygen therapy and decompression treatment, helping divers safely transition to surface pressure levels and preventing serious health risks associated with rapid decompression.

While decompression chambers are already available in four Maldivian resorts—Bandos Maldives, Kuredu Island Resort & Spa, Kuramathi Maldives, and Kandima Maldives—the new facility in Guraidhoo is the first to be operated by the state.
