Northern Atolls Communities Engage in MAP Healthy Diet Programme
A public awareness programme promoting healthy food consumption has successfully completed its outreach across three northern atolls, reaching more than 100 participants.
The initiative, led by the Maldives Agribusiness Programme (MAP), focused on educating communities in Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani Atolls about the importance of incorporating nutritious food into daily diets.
Running from 19 to 24 September, the programme primarily targeted residents, with particular emphasis on farmers, to highlight the benefits of using locally sourced and home-grown produce.
The programme began in Haa Alifu Atoll on 19 September with a session in Molhadhoo attended by nine participants. Subsequent sessions in Ihavandhoo and Nolhivaranfaru drew 31 participants, while another 31 attended the session in Kudhahuvadhoo on 22 September.
The initiative concluded with a large-scale event in Goidhoo on 23 and 24 September, which attracted additional participants and demonstrated strong community interest in adopting healthier dietary practices.
All sessions included practical cooking demonstrations and were conducted by experienced local dietitians under a project contract.
