Bangladeshi National Arrested After Nepalese Woman Stabbed In Hulhumalé

A Bangladeshi national has been taken into police custody following the stabbing of a Nepalese woman in Hulhumalé yesterday.
The incident, reported to authorities at 12:45 PM, involved a 21-year-old Nepalese woman who sustained a stab wound to the neck while working at the OCC store in Hulhumalé Phase I. She is currently being treated at Hulhumalé Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police identified the alleged perpetrator as 25-year-old Jahangir Mia, a Bangladeshi citizen, who was arrested in Hulhumalé Phase II later the same day. According to police, the suspect was identified and apprehended following an investigation that included the review of CCTV footage.
The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that an active investigation is underway to determine the full circumstances surrounding the assault.
The incident comes amid a recent rise in violent attacks in Malé city. Two weeks ago, a young man was stabbed on Majeedhee Magu, and late last month, another individual was attacked and injured on Sosun Magu.
