Over 150 Travellers Denied Entry Into Maldives in August, Reveals Immigration

Maldives Immigration has reported that more than 150 travellers were denied entry into the country in August and subsequently sent back.

According to statistics on airport movements released by Immigration on Tuesday, a total of 246,239 arrivals and 237,375 departures were recorded during the month. The figures include 31,487 arrivals by Maldivian nationals and 214,752 arrivals by foreign nationals. Departures included 15,968 Maldivian nationals and 221,407 foreign nationals.
The data show that Immigration carried out 229 border interceptions in August. These comprised 153 entry denials, 73 offloads, and three other interceptions.
Of the total foreign arrivals, 192,058 travellers entered the Maldives on tourist visas. Most of these, 191,546, arrived through Velana International Airport in Malé. Gan International Airport in Addu City recorded 378 tourist arrivals, Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll recorded 123, Hanimaadhoo Airport in the north recorded eight, and Dhaalu Airport in Kudahuvadhoo recorded three.
