One Dead, Two Missing After Landing Craft Overturns Near K. Eriyadhoo

A landing craft carrying seven people overturned earlier today while en route to K. Eriyadhoo, leaving one person dead and two others missing.
The vessel, Almaak Fiya, a 100-foot landing craft operated by construction company Almaak Maldives, had departed from Male’ City and capsized sometime after midnight.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Coast Guard Second Squadron has rescued four people from the incident. Divers from the Coast Guard recovered the body of one individual from underwater on Thursday morning and continue to search for the remaining two missing persons.
The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Shifaan (38), from Sarusoonuge, GA. Dhaandhoo. Authorities have yet to confirm the identities of the remaining passengers.
