Two Men Arrested Over Speedboat Theft From Thilafushi Lagoon

Two Maldivian men have been arrested on suspicion of stealing a speedboat from Thilafushi lagoon.

The suspects were identified as 30-year-old Hassan Rasheed Ahmed of Chanbeyleege, Foakaidhoo, and 27-year-old Ibrahim Mamdhooh of Shiuma Manzil, Foakaidhoo. Both were remanded in custody for five days following their appearance in court on Friday.

According to the remand order, the pair allegedly stole a speedboat that had been docked at Thilafushi lagoon, vandalised the vessel, and removed an engine gear.

Judge Safwath Habeeb, who presided over the case, noted that both suspects had admitted to the allegations. The court advised them that they could enter plea or caution agreements during the investigation stage.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspects have any prior criminal records.
