Masked Group Steals Cash-Filled Suitcase from Bank Staff at Velana Airport

A group of masked individuals has stolen a suitcase containing cash from employees of a bank at Velana International Airport (VIA) early Monday morning.

The Maldives Police Service said the robbery was reported at 4:45 a.m., confirming that the suitcase — filled with cash — was taken from two bank staff members as they attempted to enter the airport’s newly opened Terminal 1.

Police have confirmed the robbery but have not disclosed the amount stolen, the identity of the bank, or other details of the suspects. The case remains under investigation.
