Bar Council to Hold Bi-Election for Executive Committee Seat

Bar Council Maldives will hold a bi-election on 4 December to fill a recently vacant seat on its Executive Committee.

The council said in a press release that the election follows the resignation of Ahmed Shafiu, who stepped down from the committee after his appointment as a judge on 30 October.

Under the Legal Profession Act, Executive Committee members are elected through a secret ballot by licensed practitioners in the Maldives. The Regulation to Appoint Members to the Bar Council’s Executive Committee requires that any vacant seat be filled within 30 working days.
