Police have stated that the cause of death of a couple found dead in a house in Hithadhoo, Addu, on 22 October remains undetermined, as the necessary analytical report has not yet been received.
The deceased were identified as Ibrahim Abdulla, 60, of Kureynuge, Hithadhoo, and Farahnaaz Rasheed, 52, of Nares, Maradhoo.
Regional Commander Ahmed Shameem said at a press conference yesterday that the case remains under investigation and that there is currently no indication of foul play. He noted that the house was securely locked from the inside, requiring police to work with members of the public to gain access.
Shameem explained that police had considered conducting an autopsy, but the couple were buried on 25 October without one. He added that, although samples were not taken, there is no current evidence of negligence or involvement by others.
The couple was discovered following a prolonged absence. Police and members of the public found the house without electricity and observed traces of smoke inside.
