Maldives Immigration has announced the launch of a new e-visa application system, a significant step in modernising the country’s immigration services, with applications opening on 23 November.
The system, which features a mobile application and facial recognition technology, was officially unveiled at a ceremony on 10 November. The authority said the two-week period between the launch and the opening of applications is intended to give users sufficient time to familiarise themselves with the new process. Detailed guides and tutorials will be made available across Immigration’s platforms to assist applicants.
As part of the transition, Immigration has set 20 November as the deadline for submitting physical passports under the existing system. Passports not processed and issued by 23 November will be handled through the new digital framework. Applicants are encouraged to collect completed passports before the deadline to avoid delays.
The e-visa service is designed to simplify and streamline procedures that previously required multiple in-person visits. Once operational, the system will enable all visa and permit applications to be processed online, providing a more efficient and user-friendly experience for both residents and visitors.
