Hamdhy previously served as President of the Privatization and Corporatization Board (PCB), a post from which he was dismissed in February.
The reasons for his removal were not disclosed at the time, though it followed the issuance of circulars targeting government companies, including a directive during Ramadan restricting gifts beyond the Ramadan allowance and measures to cut corporate expenditure. The PCB later cancelled these circulars.
In addition to his tenure at the PCB, he has also held key positions, such as Managing Director of the Maldives Road Development Corporation (RDC) and Managing Director of Fuel Supply Maldives (FSM).
Under the provisions of the new MMBC Act, the Vice President of the commission is elected by its members through a secret ballot, while the President is chosen by Parliament from among the seven members. Three members are appointed by Parliament and four by the media sector, including two representing broadcasters and two representing print or online media outlets.
