ECM Seeks Over 7,000 Officials for Local Council Elections

The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has announced that it is seeking more than 7,000 officials for the upcoming Local Council Elections and Women’s Development Committee Elections scheduled for next year.

According to the commission’s website, interested individuals can submit applications through the ECM portal. Applicants must be over 18 years of age, must not hold senior positions in any political party, and must not be involved in the campaign activities of any candidate.

They should also not be related to any candidate, nor act as a representative, observer, or monitor for a candidate. Individuals currently serving a sentence for any criminal offence are also ineligible.

The commission has outlined the remuneration for polling officials. The head of the polling station will receive MVR 2,900, while the assistant will be paid MVR 2,600. Other polling officials will receive MVR 2,300, and vote counters will receive MVR 1,800. Reserve officials are to be paid an allowance of MVR 1,000. In addition, officials will receive a food allowance and overtime pay based on working hours, the ECM stated.

The deadline for applications is 3pm on 21 December.
