Male’ City Council to Construct Bus Stations With ATM Services

The Male’ City Council has announced plans to construct new bus stations in Male’ that will provide Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) ATM services.

According to the City Council’s website, an agreement for the project was signed on Sunday by Secretary General Abdul Muhaimin Naseer on behalf of the council, and Chief Administrative Officer Mohamed Zulal Zaeem representing MIB.

The project will see the development of bus stations at four locations across Male’, featuring advanced public transport services and convenient access for the public. The locations are: Majeedhee Magu, Maafannu Maizan (the old Maafannu Cemetery); Ameenee Magu, Sinamale’ 3; Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Thaiseykoshi; and Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Raalhugan’dhu area.

The City Council stated that MIB will cover the full cost of the project through a ten-year rent waiver and will also manage the design, construction, and maintenance of the bus stations and ATM kiosks.

Under the agreement, ownership of the buildings will transfer to the City Council once the defined period concludes. The council added that precedence was given to ensuring that the design allows unobstructed access to the bus stations despite traffic at the stops.
