Police are investigating an incident in which an officer allegedly intimidated and endangered a child during an altercation at a futsal ground in the South Central region.
The incident occurred last Friday and involved an officer who is said to have a family connection to one of the children present. According to information shared with the media, the officer allegedly threatened another child in a manner that could have resulted in physical harm.

Police have confirmed that the criminal aspect of the case is under investigation, while the Professional Standards Command is assessing the officer’s conduct to determine whether disciplinary action is required.
Authorities have not released additional information, citing the involvement of minors.
The incident comes amid heightened concern about child protection in the Maldives. Reports of child sexual abuse continue to surface frequently, and many cases remain unreported. A recent study also identified the Maldives as the most accessible country in South Asia for child sexual abuse material, highlighting the need for stronger safeguards for children.
