Youth Arrested In Hulhumale’ With Suspected Drugs

Police have arrested an 18-year-old Maldivian man in Hulhumale’ after he attempted to conceal suspected drugs and flee from officers patrolling the area on Saturday.

According to Police, the youth was seen trying to hide an item upon noticing officers on routine patrol. He reportedly ignored instructions to stop and continued walking before being apprehended near the Nirolhu Magu bus stop.

Officers searched the suspect and found substances believed to be drugs inside an empty film roll container. The items weighed 31.23 grams, Police said.

The 18-year-old has been remanded in custody for 30 days following his presentation before the court. The case remains under investigation.

Drug abuse continues to be one of the Maldives’ most significant social issues, with 1,770 cases reported to authorities so far this year.
