Police officers removed an unconscious man from the abandoned Hulhumalé Water Theme Park yesterday, in an incident that occurred in an area long associated with criminal activity.
According to information from the scene, four police motorcycles arrived at the location at around 21:45, followed shortly by a police car. Officers were later seen leaving the area carrying an unconscious man, who was placed in the police vehicle and taken from the scene. Authorities have not yet provided any details regarding the individual or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The area surrounding the unused water park is widely known for drug-related activity and robberies. Police have not issued a statement about Sunday’s events.
This is not the first concerning case reported from the vicinity. On 25 August, the decomposing body of a 29-year-old Nepali man was discovered in the same area, though police said at the time that no suspicious circumstances were identified.
The water theme park project was awarded to a Malaysian company in 2017, but construction did not progress. The site has remained abandoned and without maintenance for years, prompting ongoing concerns from nearby residents.
