This move forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen decentralisation and provide vital services to rural communities. Passport and ID card services are being extended to the provinces, with plans to make them accessible on at least one island in each province.
Previously, residents of these islands had to travel to the capital at considerable expense to obtain passports and ID cards.
