The Maldives Police Service reported that 78 drug bullets were found inside the stomach of a man who was discovered dead in a guesthouse.
The death was initially reported to the Police at 12:14 pm on Sunday, 30 November. The deceased, identified as an expatriate, was found inside a room at a guesthouse in Hulhumale’ Phase I.
Police confirmed that the deceased was a 40-year-old Nepali man who arrived in the Maldives on 16 November with two other individuals. The group first travelled to Maafushi before checking into the Hulhumale’ guesthouse on the morning of 28 November. The two companions left the Maldives on the same day.
Although the man showed no external injuries, a CT scan revealed that he had ingested drugs. Following legal advice from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Police, with the assistance of a doctor, removed the drugs from his body on Tuesday night. The procedure was carried out outside a healthcare facility due to the body’s degree of decomposition.
A total of 78 drug bullets were recovered, weighing 818 grams. Authorities noted that details of the case had not been previously disclosed, as the investigation is ongoing. The Police continue to work to establish the facts, identify suspects, and determine whether additional individuals may be involved.
