The individuals are Ali Nadheem, 30, of Konmuli, S. Hithadhoo; Hafiz Fauzy, 31, of Falaah, S. Hithadhoo; Ibrahim Siraj, 43, of Veyofeheburuge, S. Hithadhoo; Hassan Alfaaf, 28, of Dhorufothimaage, S. Hithadhoo; and Ameen Mohamed, 23, of Kekurimaage, S. Hithadhoo.
When presented in court for their remand hearings, Nadheem, Fauzy and Siraj were remanded in custody for 30 days. Alfaaf and Ameen were placed in remand for five days.
All five individuals belong to a Hithadhoo-based group known as ‘Milo’, with Nadheem identified as the leader. Police said an operation targeting the network, investigating drug trafficking and money laundering, commenced in March this year. Investigations indicate that the network has been involved in drug trafficking since 2017.
Authorities reported that over the past five years, more than MVR 19 million has been transacted through the bank accounts of four members within the network.
